View Full Version : Update failure and c00005 error

Things I've tried:
-Moving to C:\Annihilus (previously just in an Anni folder on my desktop, worked perfectly). Doing this let me at least be able to open d2, but it's with the vanilla patch, and I get the 00005 error if I try to log on.
-DEP exceptions
-Resetting computer
-Fresh full install
-Cutting myself

Now I just get this error when I try to update. Everything is running as admin, so I just don't get it.

What's your anti-virus status? I had problems with updating when my windows defender started automatically deleting files and programs that it deemed a risk. I had to add the entire directory to the exception list or shut off defender.

I haven't had to mess with defender for a while. I just searched an old harddrive for my d2, and installed from that. I'm just gonna go slit now, because it still isn't working.

Delete everything and try re-installing using the full installer.

It used to let me restore the quarantined shit, but now the "virus" hasn't been showing up in the quarantined list.

Delete everything and try re-installing using the full installer.

I've done it literally five times.

That's what it started doing to me. Try re-installing one more time from scratch, this time with Windows defender and any other ant-virus shut off.

Hi,

I fought this issue for weeks upon weeks upon weeks until I had no space left on my arms to cut anymore :d. This is how I fixed it:

Completely uninstall anything having to do with Annihilus or D2 on your hard drive. Next Delete all accounts of Diablo 2 or Anni from your Registry (Be VERY VERY careful with this step and only make sure you are deleting things with Anni and D2 in the name.)

Next, Fresh install Diablo 2 using the site or there is another thread on here for an alternate DL.

Restart your computer.

Set D2.exe and Game.exe to run as administrator

Restart your computer again.

Follow the DEP guide making sure there are exceptions for the updater/launcher, D2.exe, and Game.exe

Restart your computer once again.

Now, open the launcher and update. If the c000005 error doesn't go away, Restart one last time.

I know all the restart are very very annoying, but for some reason I found if you don't restart after each step it will never work.

Hope this helps!

PS your sig is sooo hot :p

I'll do this tomorrow hopefully. I have over 10 copies of d2 between my SSD and HDD, so this is going to be a pain in the ass.
Thanks a lot for giving me a guide :)

Yes she's hot as fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk ugh.
