This is my formal application to apply for the position of Game Master, for the Annihilus private game server.
I shall make my application open to all who would vouch in support for my position of GM on Annihilus. Each signature it gets is important, as it will carry weight in the decision on my part to continue through the application process. Please note however, that my election of GM has no bearing on my ability to help new players, either with tech support, items, rushing, etc.
In reply to the sticky thread:
#1: My in-game, forum, and player account is known as Xardas, at your service.
#2: I am 27 years old at the time of this writing. May of 1988. The 1990's was quite a decade, but I don't miss it.
#3: I am located on the East Coast of the United States, isolated high up in the mountains where no one can bother me.
#4. I have no GM experience with Diablo 2 itself or any Blizzard product. I have however managed and hosted servers for other people, primarily in the first person shooter gigs.
I have some experience in testing server integrity in both bandwidth and security. I prefer not to touch anything hardware or networking related, despite my Microcomputer Specialist credentials awarded in 2012 (Diablo 2 started getting in the way of school back then).
#5: Same answer as #1.
#6: I have played Diablo 2 for less than four years. Yes, it is true. I am primarily active in other types of computer and video games, mainly first person shooters of the single player kind. However, this does not limit my ability to help other players since I have printout charts on hand at moment's notice.
#7: I do not know what PvPGN is, and I am not familiar with this program. I trust that if elected GM, I will have some prior training with this application to be a more effective GM.
#8: This is a complicated question to answer, as I don't want to go too far into personal history, so I'll keep it brief. I have seen firsthand what happens when servers and games die. They have always come down to two common factors: Poor player support, and poor player bases. Both parties are responsible for doing their part, or otherwise participate in the downfall of said servers, resulting in empty multiplayer games that is a waste of $49.99.
For a strong player base, the disruptive and unruly players must be permanently firewalled by way of IP, MAC, or GUID as to keep the good players from leaving. However, that can only be done by staff that is of good moral character and not unwilling to excercise such measures as a last resort, as to not convict innocent players.
As GM, I trust that I shouldn't have to resort to such measures ever again, and can instead rely on intel from other GMs as per the decision process.
In closing, this concludes my application for GM on Annihilus, and I will defer the rest of this thread to the signatures of the undersigned.
