Gold / Mod Question!

Can you succeed in this game (Hardcore mode) without much gold? Or does this mod revolve around gold? Let's assume I don't even use the 60g/day, can I succeed in this mod?

Gold is like a consolation prize. You can get all the gear in the game through normal farming, but once every couple weeks you get a free HR or a cosmetic item is thats what you desire from gold from voting.
