i remember configuring my d2maphack.cfg to show only certain stuff with specified sockets and what not... why not include a config file in the folder that lets one control of what is shown if the filter is turned on?

Crap Filter is completely customizable in 2.2. Mousing over an item and hitting backspace will un-hide it, pressing delete will hide it.

It has a basic list as default There's more ways to do it in bulk, thats just an easy way to add / remove things if you're picky.
