They promised continuous updates for years to come way back before D3 came on to the scene. Maybe they will finally follow through

They just want to make their older games work on newer Windows better, as you may know running Diablo II for example on Windows Vista or higher causes some crazy color issues and won't even open without certain compatibility settings checked. They will also likely add some HD support to the games, in which case we can just adept the changes here. It is extremely unlikely there will be anymore actual new content on Blizzard's Diablo II.
