Playing D2PK without a cd?

When I try to launch D2pk using the launcher, it asks for me to insert a cd and retry.

Is there any way to play without a cd?

I copied my d2 folder from realms (which was 1.14b no cd version 26digit key) then pasted in an old game.exe (got it from blizzards mirror site) and then I ran 1.13c patch (also downloaded from blizzard ftp), then ran annihilus patch and it works no cd.
