I didn't get it, every 6 months all players will get their characters wiped out of items and levels?

No, they will go to Non Ladder, u can keep playing the characters.
Ladder reset means, all ur current characters will go to Non Ladder and that New created characters can compete in the Ladder again, the choice is urs !

PS. Note that Ladder and Non Ladder characters cannot be in the same games. Non ladder can play with Non ladder, and Ladder can play with Ladder characters!
